BIO
I
am an Associate Professor of Decision, Risk and Operations in the Graduate
School of Business at Columbia University. I joined Columbia in 1998 after
receiving a BS from Imperial College, London, and an MS and PhD from Stanford
University, all in EE. My main interests are in stochastic modeling and
operations management with particular focus on: (a) revenue management and its
application in the manufacturing and service sector; (b) analysis and design of
service systems, primarily motivated from information and communication
services; and (c) stochastic network theory. Prior to joining Columbia, I
worked at Canon Research Center America. I was awarded the 1999 Nicholson Prize
for the best student paper in Operations Research and Management Science. I
serve as an associate editor for several leading journals, and since 2002 I
have been co-organizing the annual Informs conference on Revenue Management. I
teach the MBA core course on Managerial Statistics, an elective course on
Pricing and Revenue Optimization, as well as several PhD courses on stochastic
modeling and operations management. I occasionally consult in the industry on
various issues related to my research expertise.
